Altitude After School Program

Overview

An after-school recovery program

All students at 5280 are required to participate in after-school recovery programming, which can look different depending on each student’s needs. Some participate in youth 12-step programs like FullCircle, while others seek out alternative programs or one-on-one therapy. One option is Altitude, 5280’s inclusive after-school recovery program.

Altitude focuses on recovery from all things, not just substance use. It’s student-directed, while following a traditional 12-step framework. It creates a casual space for students to build a strong safety net while having fun together.

Our Approach

Program overview

Led by 5280’s certified recovery coaches, Altitude takes a blended approach to recovery. Each week, one day is dedicated to a student-led or coach-led meeting; another is focused on step work, with a study of the “Big Book” modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous’s twelve-step program; and the third day is reserved for fun activities and outings, because recovery is as much about enjoying your community as it is about supporting one another.

Schedule

Altitude runs from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday each week during the school year. Attendance at all Altitude meetings is required for those who choose to participate. In the summer, Altitude is offered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

Transportation

Transportation is available upon request. Reach out to Transportation Director Ten Backe to be added to the route.

Enrolling

All 5280 students are eligible to participate in Altitude, free of charge. In addition, students who are interested in 5280 but not yet enrolled are welcome to attend meetings and explore recovery with us. Anyone interested in joining Altitude should contact Director of Recovery Brittany Kitchens.
