ESSA Requirements

Teachers

There are 5 ways to be Highly Qualified under federal ESSA guidelines:

  1. Bachelor or higher degree in the subject area
  2. CDE teaching license endorsement in the subject area
  3. Pass a PRAXIS exam in the subject area
  4. National Board Certification in the subject area
  5. 24+ semester hours from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution, well distributed within the subject area

Coaches (Academic & ELA)

1 – 48 or more semester hours from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (community or junior college, or four-year university)

OR

2 – High School Diploma (or GED), AND passing the following three Work Keys tests (tests can be taken at the Community College of Denver or the Emily Griffith Campus):

  • Reading (minimum score = 4)
  • Business Writing (minimum score = 3)
  • Math (minimum score = 4)
