Graduation Requirements
A clear path to earning a diploma
5280 follows DPS’ graduation requirements of 240 credits (24 units) following these course requirements. Due to the unique nature of our school, there are a couple of small changes:
Students receive 2.5 credits (0.25 units) for each quarter of BOAT recovery participation. This takes the place of the comprehensive health requirement from Denver Public Schools.
All students must complete a 60-hour internship their junior year, when they authentically explore a career of interest, learn to navigate the complexities of a professional workplace, and practice professional skills in a real-world setting.
Competency Requirements
Most students at 5280 fulfill the competency requirement through their Senior Capstone, a multidisciplinary research project embedded in English 4. The Capstone is tailored to the student’s personal future goals. Examples include scientific or artistic endeavors, internships, writing projects, and community service work.
ICAP Requirements
To meet the ICAP requirement, every student meets quarterly with their counselor to discuss their progress toward graduation and plans for the future. Students also attend quarterly grade-level meetings where they explore and discuss their post-secondary interests. In addition, seniors receive post-secondary transition support tailored to their individual plans.
